Default Opinions on the new means to Gladiator title

Hi,

I am an active player, pvp most, playing a lot of RA and GvG.

Since the new update the way to increase your gladtitle has been changed and made it much easier.

Before the update U would get 1 gladpoints after 5 wins, 2 after 10 etc.
Now U get an gladpoint after the second win, get a constant 2 gladpoints after the 5th win, 3 after the 10th win etc.

To me this is a bad change.
Until now u could somewhat say that if a player had a decent glad rank (5 and up) and achieved that without syncing (which i hate) it will be a good pvp-er.
For recruiting purposes we used that a lot to get players that are used to pvp and easier get into GvG etc.

Now i think its too easy to obtain gladpoints.
I know they did this to get more people interested in PvP, but it's not a lot of fun when u constantly get people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing there.
Loved the meteor shower warrior though ....
The increase in "PvE-noobs" is terrifying.

I think the addition of the strongboxes is good although a bit over the top.
But it's nice to have a little reward for playing.

So i would like (and I know this will not happen) to have the old system of gaining gladpoints back.
What do U people think of this update to the glad title ?

You do realise you still need to win to get points, right? So these "PvE noobs" will either remain at low ranks because they fail and get bored, or will actually get better and gain higher ranks. Also, how do you prove someone didn't sync their title? Least now it's almost impossible to sync so that's not an issue anymore.

-rolls eyes-

This elitism is why so many PvP formats were dying out and people didn't want to cross over from PvE lest they be looked down upon. Hopefully the changes to PvP will help to combat that somewhat.

The only thing this update did was encourage more syncing. I've seen multiple players recruiting for "sync guilds". The only real way to fix RA is to make team forming 100% random, which isnt going to happen, therefore the glad title has no prestige anymore. It's just another broken format like all the others. There's 2 options: play and exploit the system and sync like everyone else, or dont play it anymore.

the bolded statement is so true. a lot of pvp has such bad elitism(HA has it the worst but there are some other ones too) that really makes it an un-friendly environment for people who don't have ranks. With everyone on here(by that i mean on guru and from what I've seen its pretty consensual) i think we can establish that before the update pvp was dying. Everyone was complaining about how no one would come and play. well now the whiners get to say "well now there is only noobs playing" which i think is a good thing. New people will bring fresh builds to the pvp format that aren't (hopefully) just cookie cutter PvX builds.

So no, just because glad title is easier now doesn't mean it should go back to the old pointless way of getting points. pvp guilds just need to get over it and accept whats happening.

@depeche, I'm not sure where to begin to put this nicely so I'll just say it: your judgment is seriously impaired if you are trying to find good new PvP players based on their Gladiator rank. Or if you expect RA to produce decent players in the first place.

RA today is a newb farm. The syncers are teaming up and owning team after team of clueless newbs for easy points. In case anybody's doubting this statement, I invite them to play a dozen RA games and then tell me what the chances are for consistently getting a perfectly coordinated team with synergetic professions on the other side.

Even if syncing wasn't an issue, there are factors that make RA unsuitable for producing anything good:

* Newbs don't understand anything. "WTF just happened? No idea."
* There's no feedback of any kind. "What did I do bad? What did I good? No idea." Win or lose, they don't get a clue.
* They get "owned" over and over and over. Not exactly a positive reinforcement environment.
* They are brought down by all kinds of arseholes telling them nasty things.

Add to this that GW itself does not lend itself to easy learning. There's no way to spectate other players live. The only way to see others play and get some pointers and feedback is by watching recordings, but the quality of those is frankly crap. The spectator interface does not show exactly what the person you're following does, and there's no pause or frame-by-frame play.

If RA was supposed to be an entry point to PvP, it is terribly broken in that respect.

I liked the old glad system, but I like the new one too. So I'm pretty happy either way

I hate people who sync RA, the glad title never had prestige, less now as anyone over a certain rank or from certain guilds synced it.

So they won 25 games with their friends against pve players many times. That takes no skill. If sync players were any good at pvp, they'd be in gvg, HA or even codex (why bother with that arena when the title is so tainted with synced resign teams).

It still goes on even after the recent changes, again, why people bother for such low regarded title is anyones guess. Maybe they secretly want pve rewards (strong boxes) and as such should do what they seem to spout a lot: go back to pve.

I do not regard RA as anything other than fun, it and its title have absolutely no indication of a persons skill level at PvP.

LOL IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC?

Also syncing isn't the biggest problem with glad title.
Zaishen and lower level arenas say hi.

maybe if people would stop calling people newbs or noobs and accually give a couple of pointers or hints as how to improve instead of just flaming them and basically just being a mean spirited person calling names and other stuff i am not willing to repeat it would be a more fun place to go and play. Remeber we all started out as newbs or noobs at the time we started. there is nothing wrong with treating people with a little bit of common courtesy. treat people the way that you would like to be treated in return.

If the recent changed to the various PvP formats bring new people into them, IT'S A GOOD THING.

Making it harder for people to discriminate based on rank IS ALSO A GOOD THING.

Continued rank discrimination (elitism) in the various PvP formats will send many of the new faces in PvP back to PvE.

Continued trash talking and bashing newbies when they haven't learned the ways of PvP will send many more of those newbies packing.

Continued syncing will also discourage new blood from sticking around.

While those things are happening, PvP players come to GWGuru complaining that those PvP formats are dead, when it's the atmosphere that many of those same PvPers create that is killing it off!*

A-Net did something to breath new life into PvP, what are the players going to do with it?

*DISCLAIMER - It's only a large percentage of PvP players who behave badly. My comments only address those people. I have nothing but the utmost respect for those who play with dignity & class.

I would care if i still played GW. I find it a bit annoying to see that a lot of titles can be easily obtained after the real dedicated players get the titles. I got g4 myself.

But i understand the reasoning.

I have an IDEA.... lets give the lower rank more of an advantage in playing... more health.. more armor.... more mana... more damage.... sort of like.. how the flux works but based on your GLAD rank... or some other PvP measuring stick...

PLease dont flame me about how that it would wreck RA for PvPers... RA is for ppl new to PvP if you want to do serious PvP you can go somewhere else..

You can only test the player's skill in a format, if you play that very format with him. I don't see how a title tells anything about a player anyway. At least nowadays, because most of them are farmable (in the case of ra syncable) or purchasable. You said yourself that you test potential recruits in ra, which cannot be done without syncing.

In regards to the title change, you could pretty much win 90% of the games without increasing your rank. The change itself adresses this issue and eleviates the issues with syncing a little bit. Those who don't sync get their rewards, those who use syncing to get more strategy into ra won't be hindered in any way. It's a good compromise between rerandomizing the teams each match and keeping the current system (which ignores the synching issue altogether).

"We used G5 as a requirement to recruit for our PvP guild."
Then bump up to G7...I mean...really? Did you not think of that?

FFS, it's RA. If you're looking for skillful play, look in one of the organized group arenas. Anyone should be able to take whatever frickin build they want into RA and not have to deal with anyone else calling them out.

How the heck did you determine if they were a syncher or not? How did you determine if they had gotten their Glad 5 by sheer luck through six years of GW, or if they were actually good? How do you determine anything from glad rank except how much a player plays RA?

I don't consider myself an "elite" player.
I know that i am fine player and whenever i am in RA and see someone trying to grasp the concept ill help them.
I'll give them builds, explain the build and see them improve.

With the new system, RA is easily farmed, even if you don't know pvp at all.
If u get lucky u will get carried a few matches by the other players.
In the past, u needed to be carried 5 rounds and if u didn't have a clue about what u were doing u were not going to get to 5 that much.

So yes, glad title is a little incentive to see if someone knows how to play.

Sadly syncing is still viable and with this system encouraged.

And no, we didn't recruit people based on their glad rank, what we DID do is observe when playing in RA and if u see people doing good / smart things, approach them.

it's not a lot of fun when u constantly get no healer for hour , 4 melee against bsurges , syncs , etc....Luck part is ftw yes...I think that it's a good idea because at least you have something to do on dead hours which won't waste your time... You can't know the number of hours i've passed in RA feeling i wasted my time...

If you want to complain about how much the change is devaluing the champion title, try to do it without insulting 95% of the game's population next time.
